We landed in Kiev around 2:00 p.m. today. Sergey was waiting for us outside of customs. Of course he told us his English was "not good, very little," but he was being modest as he was able to point out sites and tell us a lot of Ukrainian history on our way in to our apartment. For those of you traveling, when you enter the customs area, the first line is for Ukrainian citizens. The middle two to six lines say "Passport Control", and those are the lines you need to get into. We were not sure what the line on the far side of the building was for. No one approached us, but we had already taken John & Twyla's advice and filled out our customs forms ahead of time and did not take out our blue American passports until the last minute. It was snowing when we landed with low visibililty, so hopefully it will be clearer tomorrow so we can see some of the impressive achitecture better! We have a lovely apartment two blocks from independence square with hot water, internet, washing machine and a small kitchen. Sergey drove up a good sized curb to park on the sidewalk in front of the bank/pharmacy so we could change some money. The dollar is very strong right now in Kiev, 7.5 grivna for $1. Just a month ago it was 5 grivna for $1. We were supposed to meet Felix & Heidi tonight and their new kiddos, but due to the snow we have postponed it until tomorrow when they are coming in to Kiev anyway for some of their final paperwork. I am still amazed that we will be having dinner with them in Ukraine when we live 10 minutes away from each other in Colorado! We can't wait to meet their three new children and catch up with our good friends. In Frankfurt there were smoking rooms that people would walk in to smoke cigarettes. They held about 10 people and must have had some kind of ventilation, but they were filled with smoke. Tomorrow we are going to explore indpendence square. We are going to work on uploading our pictures next, and we will create a link on our blog to it.

So glad to hear that you've arrived safely! Can't wait to hear how your SDA appointment goes.
Wonderful! We are praying for you. The kids keep asking what time it is where you are.
Last night Tatum said staying with us was like practice for having more siblings. I asked her if she would like to have five more siblings. She said, "that would be awesome!." I love her attitude....
Much love,
Karla and family
Congratulations on a safe arrival! Can't wait to hear about your SDA appointment! God Bless!
I'm glad you're there safe and sound. It will be so neat to see Felix and Heidi and their sweet kids! Praying for you as you anticipate your appointment on Wednesday...we have our home study home visit that day. Can't wait to see who God brings into your family!
Haven't stopped thinking of you! Man, you have the Hilton of accommodations! I'll tell you, American just ain't the same with the Roge's and Volf's gone, there is this strange void.
Glad to hear you made it safely and are enjoying yourselves! It is so nice when there are other Americans to see and talk to when there.
It is good for us that our dollar stretches so far. The greevna fluctuated a little from 5.05 down to 4.75 during our two trips. But, it isn't good news for those living there especially the orphans. They are having a hard enough time making ends meet.

Welcome to Kiev! It's snowing in Longmont today, too. Isn't it wonderful to know that God already knows who will be joining your family? I can't imagine how you might be feeling as you wait to meet him/her/them.
God bless! Lory
Congratulations on your safe arrival! The exchange rate is great for adopting families (not so much for Ukraine though, I guess)! Looking forward to hearing about your appointment - I said a prayer for you.
Hi,
Glad to hear you have arrived safely and that Sergey was there to meet you, don't you just love him! Hope your weather is nicer today and you had a chance to see independence square and more of the city.
As always praying for you and the appointment tomorrow.
